Kalash Valley is located in Chitral District of KPK province of Pakistan. Kalash Valley is a cultural world apart from the predominantly Muslim population of Pakistan. It is naturally and culturally beautiful. The wooden houses and the glorious green mountains increase their beauty. Kalashi’s live in three valleys Bumboret, Birir and Rumbur. Kalashi men wear Pakistani local dress and women of Kalash wear long black loose robes with colorful embroideries, long braided head wear. They are hardworking, educated and energetic people. Kalash is also a tourist hub in Pakistan.
They yearly celebrating the three main festivals. Each
festival is unique and full of culture.
Chilam Joshi:
They celebrate this festival in May to “thanks
Allah” for the arrival of the spring season. Boys and girls give dance performances
on traditional drum beats. Large number of domestic and foreigners attend this
festival every year. This is celebrated in three valleys Bumboret, Birir and
Rumbur and this festival is celebrated for four day.
Uchal:
After the Chilam Joshi festival the people of Kalash celebrate Uchal to “thanks Allah” for blessing them with good food and fruits. This festival is celebrated in August. Kalashi celebrate this by singing dancing and paying homage to nature.
Choimus:
In winters Choimus is celebrated. Every festival in Kalash starts
with the music and dance. People dance in round around the bonfire. Single
woman are expected to find themselves a husband during these festivals. Women paint
her face and wear colorful traditional dress.
